About the owner
Stephanie Riley is a diehard Metro Detroiter. She received her Bachelor’s in Health and Physical Education from Central Michigan University and is a certified personal trainer. She received her certification from the National Academy of Science and Medicine. For Stephanie, physical training and education is central to her own identity. She has constantly struggled with maintaining a healthy and physical lifestyle. She believes that her own experiences inform her approach to inspiring people to develop and maintain a healthy life style.
Stephanie began her fitness career as a teacher working with middle school and high school students developing fitness and nutritional plans and designing core curriculum. Where Stephanie misses working with young people and providing them the necessary strategies to live healthy lives, she approaches training like a teacher who is invested in designing energetic, fun, and useful physical training programs for a range of needs and levels.
From the owner
Come join me. I like my music loud, I like to have fun and get rowdy during workouts. I love having a community of all fitness levels in a class because it brings people together and proves that fitness is for everyone. It does not matter what level you are at or if you haven't worked out in years. Come to the gym and let’s figure it out together! I just want you moving! I don't believe working out should be a chore so I try to make it as fun as I can while taking you outside of your comfort zone. Before you know it, the hour has ended, and by then, you trained harder than you would on your own while having fun doing it! Yes, fun and fitness is a thing! The first class is FREE! How can you say no to that? Worst case scenario, you gave yourself the chance to learn something new and got a sweat in! Be a rebel and step outside of your comfort zone!!
Stephanie believes that there are three aspects of health and in order to find the best version of yourself, one has to be attentive to all aspects. When you sign up for one of her classes, she will make sure to design a training routine that speaks to:
Just move! She starts with physical health and getting you moving in the gym. She believes in finding that one kind of routine that will inspire and excite you to maintain that healthy lifestyle.
To sustain the health physical lifestyle, Stephanie believes it’s important to have good mental energy and that food and nutrition assist with that. Through experiences with clients, she's noticed that once an exercise routine is established, people usually begin asking about nutrition—it becomes important to people to consider what you should be eating before/after the gym, in addition to creating daily eating habits that will allow you to reach your goals.
Once people start making nutritional changes in their lives, along with exercising, energy levels improve, sleep improves, and people feel happier and have more confidence in themselves. This improves their mental and emotional health.
In addition to maintaining and improving the other aspects of health, people start to feel good about themselves. Stephanie believes that if people feel good about themselves then it will positively impact their relationship with themselves and others along with have a positive impact on their performance in the gym.
The results from training at Rebel Strength and Fitness is more than just fitness. You will find ways to create healthy habits that will significantly improve your overall wellness so that you can become the best version of yourself including ALL aspects of health . The healthy lifestype is adopted and for that, Stephanie is rich of happiness, and so are you!
Why the Thunderbird?
The meaning behind the Thunderbird logo is something very important to me and RS&F. I am an enrolled member of the Chippewa of the Thames First Nation. The majority of Southwestern Ontario is our modern traditional territory. We are a forward thinking nation with a strong grasp of our traditional values. Our symbol represents the Thunderbird, which originally is an eagle. This symbol evolved during the early days when the job of the eagle was to take messages from our people and deliver it to the “other side,” or to “spirits” and back. In order to do so, the eagle had to travel around the sun, which required strength and power. When doing so, the eagle transformed into a Thunderbird to get to the other side. Therefore, the Thunderbird represents strength and power; I use it as a symbol in my gym because it can be too easy to let our minds stop us from reaching our goals. It requires strength and power to transform to the other side, just like the Thunderbird.
